分勝負跟與家人吃飯，你會選擇哪一樣？

my first attempt on writing on the moleskine passion film template. meaning i printed it out on A4 paper because i cant afford one. (click photos to enlarge) HAHA. but well. Ip Man 2. My second movie in ximending. i really enjoy watching movies in xmd, simply because it is the place to watch movies. they have a street called 電影街 and house the largest number of cinemas in taiwan. the number was once 37 but now not too sure. and the cinema screens Ip Man at 50min intervals, not the 2hr interval we have.

so when we reached xmd it was already evening, 6 or 7. and everyone around us was talking about IM2. no seriously everyone. there were at least 5 or 6 groups of people we met in the first 5min we reached xmd that had conversations regarding IM2.

and it was screened in cantonese. :D

the story follows a very very fixed pattern. IpMan meets new opponent, he doesnt want to fight, opponent thinks he is lousy, then he fights and wins. which is the pattern for the first installment. but what i really like was the characterisation. DonnieYen is not acting as IpMan, he IS IpMan. every single dialogue is in character, every move he takes tells you something about him. i like this shot especially of him, sitting cross legged in front of his disciples on a rooftop, taking a sip of tea at first, place the cup down elegantly and then to pick up a cigarette, take a puff and then look at his disciples. it was simple and very very IpMan scholarly feel.

huang xiaoming’s addition is good. and pierre ngo. why i put exclamination marks beside his name. he was not mentioned in the trailer at all. but his character is as ka-la-fei as niu cheng ze in monga. even simon yam’s son gets a mention but why not pierre ngo? dispute with tvb? HAHA.

lesser witty dialogues as compared to first movie.though there was one when huang xiaoming asked IpMan what he will do if he got caught in a fight with 10men with weapons and he said “Run.” because obviously HXM was waiting for something cool from him like “i will fight them with my bare hands”. but it was also to plant for a scene later.

sammo hung’s addition is interesting.. but not good enough for a whole movie.he is supposed to play an impt role in IpMan’s pivotal lar but he was not a very interesting character to start with. and the scriptwriter relly tried to squeeze too many many things into that 108min, if only they took one incident out and focused more on character development. something that was stronger in IpMan 1.
